My Story

My name is Amanda Jane. I was born in the UK to West Indian parents—my roots stretching into the soulful lands of Antigua and Jamaica. My childhood was marked by both wonder and trauma. I grew up amidst abuse and domestic violence, witnessed things no child should, and later endured the same in my teens. By 22, I had lost my father to cancer—a loss that shook the ground beneath me.
After relocating to Australia in 2006 and becoming a mother in 2008, I faced postnatal depression and financial hardship, having lost my London home during the Global Financial Crisis. For years, I silently navigated the weight of social anxiety and trauma. But somewhere within that darkness, I discovered a quiet power—my breath.
A JOURNEY INTO STILLNESS
Throughout my life, I’ve followed a deep calling to explore the mind and soul. In my twenties, Buddhism and meditation found me. The teachings of presence and stillness grounded me during uncertain times. Silent 10-day Vipassana retreats in my thirties deepened my awareness and emotional resilience.
But it wasn’t until I discovered the transformative power of slow, conscious breathing that everything shifted. Slowing my breath became a doorway into profound clarity, nervous system healing, and inner peace. It became the foundation for my own transformation, offering a way to meet life's challenges with grace and calm.
Why Slow Breathing?
Breath is our most ancient wisdom—ever-present, yet often forgotten. When we learn to breathe slowly and with intention, everything softens. The noise quiets. The mind clears. We return to the truth of who we are.
This practice has helped me:
Release long-held stress and embody calm
Rewire limiting beliefs and restore trust in life
Cultivate compassion in my relationships
Awaken my purpose and live from presence
With every breath, I discovered that healing doesn’t require effort—it requires stillness.
RISE TEMPLE RETREAT: A DREAM REALISED
Rise Temple Retreat was born from this truth. Set on sacred land in the Northern Rivers, it is more than a wellness retreat—it is a sanctuary of presence. Every offering, from our breathwork classes and retreats to our online courses, is an invitation to return home to yourself.
I created Rise Temple to honour the breath, the body, and the beautiful strength that lives within us all. And beyond the land, my dream is to give back—to offer these tools to communities who may not have access but need them the most. In time, a portion of every offering will support those who seek healing but cannot afford it.
We are not here to escape—we are here to rise.
