The Benefits of Breathwork & Zentangle

Zentangle is a gentle, meditative art practice that uses simple, repetitive patterns created with pencil and felt markers. This mindful process encourages children to slow down, focus their attention, and enter a calm, relaxed state — supporting both emotional regulation and creative flow.

Research published in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association has shown that Zentangle can significantly reduce anxiety levels. The rhythmic, repetitive patterning helps activate the body’s natural relaxation response, calming the nervous system and reducing stress. When combined with conscious breathwork, this effect is deepened, allowing children to feel more settled, present, and at ease.

Together, breathwork and Zentangle offer children practical tools they can carry beyond the workshop — helping them regulate big emotions, improve focus, and build confidence. Children leave the session feeling grounded, empowered, and deeply proud of the artwork they have created.

THE MINI-RETREAT

  • 10:00am – Breathwork, Meditation & Mindfulness
    After children have settled, we will have a a 40-minute slow and nurturing breath session in The Calm Space studio. With soft light, soothing soundscapes, and spacious guidance, children are invited to settle into their bodies and breath. This session supports emotional regulation, nervous system balance, and creates a calm foundation for the day ahead.

  • 11:15am – Light outdoor play & sensory grounding
    Children will have the opportunity to gently move and explore the land before lunch—barefoot walking, nature touch, and quiet freedom held with care.

  • 11:45am – Nourishing lunch & snacks

  • 1:00pm - finish

* Additional Session

Due to there only being 10 available slots, if the workshop is sold out, we invite you to add your name to the mailing list. Should enough interest come through, we’ll contact families directly to confirm an additional session on the day. This session will run from 2pm - 4:30pm.
